10,000 visitors from 70 countries expected

The only venue to host two previous FINA World Swimming Championships, Challenge Stadium, expects to welcome up to 10,000 visitors in 2008.

Training will start on 15th April with an opening ceremony on the 17th and the first day of competition on 18th April.

Challenge Stadium’s five pools will see the event run concurrently allowing athletes in all disciplines to mix and attend the many social events.

"What we are hearing from our Masters contacts in Europe, the US and Japan is that Perth is a popular choice for the event as one of world tourism’s new frontiers ," according to Marketing Manager John Lynch.

“We have been inundated with questions and the early registrations have been fantastic,” he said. Challenge is a regular training location for Australian Olympic swimmers and boasts pools for the full range of FINA Masters aquatic disciplines.
